Caleb Mutali is an Executive Director and Partner at Iris Architects, with over 25 years of experience in architecture, healthcare facility planning and project management across East Africa.

A former in-house Architect with Aga Khan University Hospital, Caleb brings exceptional expertise in the planning, design coordination and development of complex healthcare environments. His experience encompasses hospitals, medical campuses, specialist clinics, healthcare masterplans and institutional developments, with a strong focus on integrating architecture with engineering, clinical and operational requirements. .

He is particularly experienced in international healthcare planning standards and codes, including UK NHS, HBN, HTM, FGI and NFPA, as well as international procurement and FIDIC-based contracts. This enables him to lead multidisciplinary teams on complex projects while maintaining high standards of technical, clinical and regulatory coordination.

Caleb has contributed to major healthcare projects across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Somalia, including the Aga Khan University Hospital developments in Nairobi, the Aga Khan Birthing Centre in Arusha, the Aga Khan University Health Centre in Kampala, SIMAD University Medical Campus in Mogadishu and the AIC Kijabe Hospital Masterplan and Medical Education Building.

He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Nairobi and has served for over 10 years on the University’s Department of Architecture teaching faculty. He is a Registered Architect with BORAQS, a member of the International Academy of Design & Health (IADH) and brings a unique combination of professional practice, healthcare expertise and academic experience to Iris Architects.

Caleb’s focus is on creating healthcare environments where architecture, technology, clinical function and human experience come together to improve the delivery of care.
